BACKGROUND

Squarewave Industries is the sole effort of me, Sam Winston. After spending many years as an audio engineer I decided to return to school and received a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington in 2012. Designing, building, modifying and repairing recording equipment has been my main occupation for over a decade. I first started making products under the Squarewave Industries name in 2013. I began designing and building custom mastering equipment in 2014, which I did regularly until I took a break in 2022 to develop the Comptroller. In addition to Squarewave Industries I have also been the in-house tech at Sage Arts Recording since 2017.

DESIGN

I personally design and build every piece of gear that I sell. I handle every aspect of the process, including circuit design, PCB layout and front panel layout. I'm committed to maintaining the highest level of quality that I possibly can. I've spent many years repairing and modifying all manner of studio equipment and through that work I've learned what goes into making great sounding, reliable, high quality gear. This knowledge informs every choice I make in the design process.

All components are through hole and hand soldered. Circuit boards are manufactured by Bay Area Circuits. I use steel enclosures from Par-Metal Manufacturing in New Jersey. Front panels are engraved locally by Front Panel Express in Kent, WA.
